Summit Local Missions

At Summit, we are involved with several local ministries and organizations who are serving the poor, the lonely, the addicted, the needy, the hurting. We strive to come alongside of them and help them serve our community and to make an impact. But, we want to do more than just help, we want to show people who Jesus is so that we can earn the right to tell them what He has done for them. God has blessed us, so that we can be a blessing to others.

Every month, we have opportunities for you to get involved (check the calendar often). We also have opportunities periodically to help widows, single moms and their children, but these opportunities pop up on short notice. Contact Jon if you want to volunteer to serve and any of these events or if you want to be contacted when the “pop up” work projects happen. You can also join our Summit Local Missions GroupMe to stay informed about upcoming events.

CarePortal

Summit Church is part of CarePortal, a platform created by 111Project, to connect the local church with the needs of clients of OK DHS (families trying to stay out of the system, foster families, kinship placements, foster kids, kids waiting to be adopted, etc.). Needs are shared with Summit’s response team and these team members have the opportunity to provide funds or items asked for to meet the various needs. Click here to join the response team. Lunch at Food & Shelter of Norman

Saturday, Sept 7th, 9:30 AM - 12:15 PM

Every month, Summit provides lunch for the homeless guests at Food & Shelter in Norman (201 Reed). We usually need about 5-6 volunteers who show up around 9:30 AM to begin preparing the food (and to help clean up after breakfast if needed). At 11 AM, we serve lunch, and then after everyone is finished, we clean up the dining room. Contact Jon if you would like to volunteer. Click here to find out more information about Food & Shelter

OKC Dream Center Drive-Thru Food Pantry

Friday, Sept 27th, 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM - Saturday, Sept 28th, 9:00 - 11:30 AM

Summit partners with the Dream Center (2212 SW 55th, OKC) to help them with their monthly drive-thru food pantry. On Friday, we help them unload the truck of food, organize the items on the tables, and fill up the boxes of food that will be given out on Saturday. On Saturday, we load the cars with the boxes of food and extra items as they drive through. There are also opportunities to invite the guests to church and to pray with them. If there are enough volunteers, we sometimes walk around the neighborhood and pick up trash. This opportunity needs anywhere from 5-15 volunteers on each day (kids are welcome). Contact Jon if you can help. Click here to find out more information about the OKC Dream Center.

Family Serve Day - Norman - Doing What I Can

Sunday, Sept 29th, 10 AM

Join us on Sunday, Sept 29th right after our 9 AM service at Summit Norman. We will travel down to Morningstar Storage on 24th Street and help pack lunches for homeless people with one of our local missions partners, Doing What I Can. This is a great opportunity for your children to serve, so plan to help with this great cause. This opportunity needs around 8-12 volunteers.

Learn to do what is good… Pursue justice… Correct the oppressor… Defend the rights of the fatherless… Plead the widow’s cause.
