Discuss:

  1. The word trouble in vs 13 should be translated “suffering misfortune” what does that mean to you? When should we turn to God in prayer for help? Why?

  2. Why would James tell us to call on the elders of the church when we are sick?

  3. What role does sin play in prayer? Why is confession and forgiveness a part of our prayer life?

  4. What makes a person righteous? What makes their prayer’s effective?

Respond:

  1. In what areas of your life are you currently suffering misfortune?

  2. Is prayer your first response to life’s circumstances? Why or why not?

3. Have you seen prayer be powerful and effective in your life? When?

Prayer

Spend time in prayer as a group...

Start with acknowledging God’s greatness and glory. Then sit quietly in his presence remembering that prayer is more listening than speaking. Finally bring your requests and the requests of the group before God.

Spend a good amount of time in prayer!
